I read nycsoftwaremans review and agree completely.I was fortunate enough to hook up the tv next to the 32″ Samsung 1080p model. The Samsung costs over 0 more than the AOC! The difference in picture quality was almost non-existent.I consider Samsung one of the best quality hdtv’s on the market. I think this tv is well worth the money and is on sale at Radio Shack right now.It has vivid colors, great detail and if you’re 7 or 8 feet away from the screen,there’s no need to adjust the angle. I was very surprised by the differences in picture quality when you adjust it for a movie or gaming or whatever.The adjustments for contrast,brightness, etc; work well. I found the “MID” (not low and not high) adjustment to work the best.One of the main reasons I purchased it, besides the great price, was that it has 3 HDMI connections. That’s rare for a lot of the smaller tv’s. I talked to a guy at Radio Shack and he bought one himself. He said they have had this model turned on almost 12 hours, every day of the week, for the last 5 months. He said they haven’t had one problem with the tv. To me,thats says alot! I’ve only had the TV 5 days but couldn’t be happier. You get a great bang for your buck. The only downside I can see,is the sound quality. It’s actually about the same as the Samsung but I think we all know most HD’s don’t have the best sound. However, the TV is in a rather large room and I haven’t had to turn it up to full volume yet. If you don’t have the cash for a sound system, I would still reccomend it. It’s good enough until you get the cash for one. The Sony 32′ sound qulaity is not up to par with this set,so judge for yourself. All in all, it’s a great buy and I highly reccomend it.

Today I would like to tell you about two fabulous pocket sized dedicated camcorders. In part thanks to incredible convenience and quality (don’t expect great still photos though), and in greater part to YouTube (more than 30,000 hours of video footage uploaded to YouTube each day!), ultracompact video camcorders built for easily sharing clips on the web have become the rage. Everybody loves pocket size HD!

Today I would like to tell you about the two that I recommend the Flip UltraHD (you may also want to check out the Flip MinoHD 2nd generation – very nice, smaller but more expensive) and the Kodak Zi8 HD. I’m not going to do an exhaustive product review just highlight some of the differences between each and point out what I think you need to know if you are thinking about purchasing one of these very useful pocket camcorders.

Flip UltraHD

1) Great 720p video (smoother video in action shots than 1080p).

2) Internal Microphone (no external mic can be attached).

3) Limited Memory (the memory is built in: 120 minutes on the 8 GB hard drive – you can’t add more).

4) HDMI output (connect to your hdtv and enjoy the high definition video).

5) Rechargeable AA battery pack (recharges when connected to USB), but also supported by standard AA batteries (if you are not near a wall outlet- no problem, just change the batteries and you’re good to go).

6) No image stabilization (so keep your hand steady when filming).

7) Pre-installed FlipShare software lets you easily email videos, edit individual clips, make custom movies, capture still photos from video, and even upload video to sharing sites like YouTube and MySpace.

Kodak Zi8 HD

1) Great 720p & 1080p video (1080p is great if there isn’t much movement in what you’re shooting – don’t put 1080p on the internet, the file size is too large).

3) Less Limited Memory (SD card for memory, limited only by the size of the SD card).

4) HDMI output (connect to your hdtv and enjoy the high definition video).

5) Rechargeable battery pack (recharges only to a wall outlet not USB), does not support standard batteries (you need to have another charged battery pack).

6) Image stabilization (it’s not great but it is better than nothing).

7) Easily edit and share videos and upload recorded footage to YouTube with built-in USB and software.

Professor Randy says: Price and video quality being equal, I’d go with the Kodak Zi8 for it’s external microphone jack, almost unlimited memory, and basic image stabilization!

Lets cut to the chase. The reason you bought an hdtv or the reason you are planning to get an hdtv is for the picture quality. That’s why it’s called high definition in the first place is my guess, for high definition picture. But do you really understand what a high definition picture is ? And what is the difference between a TV that displays in high definition and a disk or program that broadcasts high definition images ? This article will explain some of the jargon and help you to differentiate between hdtv and ordinary TV in terms of picture quality or resolution.

Picture resolution on a TV is described by the vertical resolution of the TV. The vertical resolution is the number of lines going from top to bottom that are displayed on the screen. To this extent if a TV has a vertical resolution of at least 720 lines then it is classed as an HDTV. Another measure of the picture resolution is the horizontal resolution. This is the number of lines going from left to right on the screen.

Many TVs, especially plasma and LCD TV’s have what is called a fixed pixel display. TVs with older style cathode ray tube picture generation could alter the number of vertical and horizontal lines on a screen. With the new technology this is fixed. The main benefits of this are that each individual pixel is a separate entity that has it’s own light and color displays. This lead to better clarity of the overall picture. Also the new TVs have a larger number of pixels on the screen than an ordinary TV. Pixel number in terms of resolution are determined by the number of horizontal pictures times the number of vertical pixels. Thus you might see in sales literature for the latest HDTV : picture resolution 1024 x 768. This is called the native resolution.

So the bigger the numbers the better ? In theory that’s true but it also depends on what you are watching. If you are watching a television program that is using the NTSC standard for broadcast then the picture resolution will be around 330 x 480. If this program is being displayed on your HDTV with 1920 x 1080 picture resolution then the picture resolution will be degraded. Having the equipment to display HDTV is not the full picture, so to speak. You also need the media to get full benefit from your HDTV picture resolution. This means viewing HD television broadcasts or watching movies on the blu ray or HD DVD format of DVD.
