Single-tuner Picture in Picture
This HDTV has a picture-in-picture feature, but it only has a single tuner which does not allow POP to function n the same mode. For example, you can’t watch one TV channel in the main screen and another channel in the PIP screen. You can watch a tv channel in one screen and view contnet from your computer or a DVD in another. This tends to be the functional limitation of PIP in most HDTVs currently available.

Samsung HPT5064 50-Inch Plasma HDTV CustomerReview

After doing TONS of research and going back and forth on 1080 vs. 720, I went for this beauty. I don’t have a Blue-Ray player and I don’t own a PS3 (yet) so I couldn’t take advantage of 1080. Broadcast HD TV is 720 anyway. I have owned this set for about 10 months and at the time the same size LCD was 0 more and the screens on the LCD’s of the day just were not as bright as plasma IMO.

Best thing to do, go to your local electronic store, compare TV’s side by side and then buy it on Amazon. First of all Amazon rocks! Customer service is awesome. 2 weeks after we bought the TV it dropped 0 and when I called Amazon they gave me the difference back! This is only good for up to 30 days after your purchase date. No tax for us in CA, and Free white glove delivery. TV came on time, delivery company called me to schedule an appointment for delivery. The delivery guy brought the TV in and help set it up and even cleaned up the mess.

TV was a breeze to setup. I have HD Comcast cable running in via composite cables, a Wii via composite, a media center PC into the VGA port and a DVD player plugged in through one of the HDMI pots. Couldn’t get coax to work directly connected to the TV but no big deal, I watch it through my cable box anyway.

I read online that you had to “break in” a plasma or you would have burn in early on. I had the TV’s settings dialed in to my room brightness but still kept it at 50% brightness. Even at that setting the TV was still VERY bright! Yes it is a plasma TV and YES there will be burn in at some point. After playing Guitar Hero III for hours with friends yes there is a ghost of the game burned into the screen. Flip the channel to any HD FULL SCREEN channel and in about 10 minutes, its all gone.

Early on we would run the anti-burn feature on the TV when we went to bed to keep burn in from being permanent. Set the sleep timer for 30-60 min, and start the scrolling anti-burn feature. The next morning when we turned on the TV, it was all gone.

All in all, I love it!

Burn in after gaming or when watching sports (score board or news ticker)
Plasma uses alot of energy vs LCD
Plasma puts off alot of heat for a TV. Keep airflow open around TV

I was in the market for the largest TV i could afford back in 2007, I was at best buy and saw this model and the picture looked great on the display model I am legally blind so for me a large screen tv is a need more so then a luxury. Though i suppose it could be considered both in my case as well.

Either way, I am video/broadcast student so I went into this purchase with some understanding about A/V the typical consumer might not. For example, I have read both gripes and praises about this television set. The main issues were concerning A/v sync with analog video though a small percentage have commented on digital challenges too.

First of all I tried all the connection types and tried to reproduce the issues on purpose and I was unable to. so no complaints here.

Second, why would anyone expect analog signal to be perfect on a DIGITAL TV, they are two different technologies.
A rule of thumb is an LCD looks best at it’s native resolution which analog won’t even come close to on an HDTV.

Third the sync could have been caused by all kinds of factors that don’t need to be listed here either way I talked to westinghouse and was told it was only a small percentage of tvs in comparrison to the mass production that had this issue.

I did however find a firmware update today for the tv from westing house and applied it.. While i didn’t have any issues i find it good practice to stay up to date.

All is great for blu ray digital antena even my theater in a box with component is very satisfactory for standard dvd that isn’t upconverted.

About audio: I don’t care how good the tv speakers are you won’t get the true experience of the movie without an eternal receiver and speakers. It just won’t happen tvs were not built to be a theater they were built to be a display that’s why we have separate ampliries.
The bottom line is this is a great tv like any other product it has bad ones come off the plant and since it runs linux software sometimes has bugs that need to be fixed. yes the tv has linux based firmware so it’s actually running linux in a form.

Bottom line it’s a good tv for a good price not the most expensive but it’s good for what it’s intended use is.

Haier HL19R1 19-Inch LCD HDTV, Black CustomerReview

This 19 inch Haier is our first HD and purchased for a small room. Sound and picture (even non-HD) are very good. Good contrast when viewing at eye level or lower but picture was too light when TV was originally placed on a high shelf. The analog (non-HD) picture is smaller and does not fill the already small screen, cutting off some 1.5 inches on each side and resulting in a 16 inch diagonal viewing area. If I had known this before purchase, I might have gone for 21 inch.

We did a lot of searching around to find the right tv. This is it. Wow, if you want a 60in lcd, this is it. The color is incredible, I actually compared the color to a non quattron tv and you can see the difference in depth of yellow.

The contrast is pretty impressive as well for an LCD. Dark knight on blue ray looks so good, you can see the make up mistakes! What a great tv, would highly recommend it. It is very light and super thin, looks beautiful even when its off.
